Little Hiawatha Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1937)
Adorable little Hiawatha readies his arrow, but he just can't shoot the trembling rabbit in front of him. This heartwarming David Hand-directed short was based on the epic poem The Song of Hiawatha by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and centered around the boy abandoning his mission and befriending the forest animals. Hiawatha is full figure in this incredible 12 field 5-peghole animation drawing and rendered beautifully in graphite with color pencil. He can be found at about 3:58 as he slowly lowers his bow and arrow, shedding a tear for the little rabbit he's preparing to kill. Very Good condition with only minor edge and handling wear and light age-related toning.
The paper used by Disney studios in the 1930s contains a distinctive watermark, visible in one of the photos, which further attests to its authenticity.
The drawing is sold unframed.
