Mickey's Garden Mickey Mouse Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1935)
If you have a garden, you know what Mickey is going through in the beginning of this Wilfred Jackson-directed short. This lot features a fantastic 12 field 2-peghole animation drawing of Mickey chasing a few bugs with his homemade - and very poisonous - pesticide. He won't be able to use it for long, though, because he soon runs out and accidentally sprays himself when he tries to get more, causing him to hallucinate. This full figure graphite with color pencil drawing can be found early in the short at about 1:10 and measures about 6.25'' x 3.25'' with the additional smoke cloud included. The drawing is marked 32 in the lower right corner and includes a detailed note to the inker about not adding too much shading when adding the transparent shadow below the character, giving us a rare look behind the scenes of the Disney animation process.
The paper used by Disney studios in the 1930s contains a distinctive watermark, visible in one of the photos, which further attests to its authenticity.
The drawing is sold unframed.
