Offered here is a stunning original animation drawing by Bill Plympton, created for The Simpsons Season 19 DVD box set menu sequence. In 2019, Plympton was hired to design the packaging and animated menu for the special box set. A pioneer of independent animation, Plympton currently holds the record for the most Simpsons couch gags directed by a guest, with eight to his name between 2012 and 2022. His celebrated career includes work for such esteemed publications as The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and National Lampoon, as well as a collection of award-winning independent animated shorts.

This particular drawing is a nod to The Simpsons iconic opening sequence, featuring the Simpson family driving up a gravity-defying road and straight into the show’s logo. The drawing is rendered in vibrant colored pencil on 12-field, 3-peghole paper, and is signed by Bill Plympton himself in the lower-right corner, making this piece even more special.

Notably, no cels were used in the making of this animated sequence—this is the actual hand-drawn artwork by Bill Plympton, filmed and used for the DVD box set.
